Seats apart in fellowship meetings they sat
“Hello brother” ” Hi sister”
Their best and lengthiest conversation
Following the climax of such meetings
She sang in the choir
Later on, he joined too
At rehearsals, frequency of meetings increased
From dwarfish shallow greetings
Their conversation’s tone was soon to change

On social network platforms
Frequent became their discussions
Though at first frigid
Like the vanishing vapour
The uneasiness was soon to disappear
As time added upon time
They shared thoughts, pains and joys;
Requesting prayers from both ends.
Their bond of friendship slowly deepened,
Though it was never anticipated.

You could hear his heartbeat
A prayer to God it offered
“More than a friend, yea a wife
Make her mine to be.
Yet, not my will, but thine be done”

You do remember #confessions of a secret admirer, right? A friend shared his experience with me after reading it and i must commend his courage and wisdom in handling the situation then. This brother at some point said to himself, “i think i am falling in love…”.

The peculiarities of the setting of  their friendship made things a bit difficult and in a way protected him from being hasty. There was a time he cut off all communications with her, hoping to kill the feelings. It did not work, only caused a lag and subsequent rebound even more intense than before. He promised himself never again to do that. He had had crushes, but this was different.

The sister was oblivious to the turmoil going on in him as she was free with him, lots of calls, meeting at programes, text messages, even travelling to NYSC camp together. He did not tell her, he was considering the best time and condition. Fortunately or unfortunately or as God would have it, she was engaged by the time he thought to tell her. Engaged to a fellow brother, so, no angle of argument. I can imagine how he ‘marched’ into God’s presence, demanding to know why; “i thought she was mine Lord”.

Well. He had to let go. He had to move on. Twas painful and difficult, but he did it.

He is now in a relationship with a beautiful lady. His own.

Telling us that it definitely does not end when your ‘crush’ is taken away from you. Don’t drink hypo or buy ropes to kill yourself. Definitely not necessary. As in, kilode?(why?)

  1. Different strokes for different folks I’d say. Happy that he finally found his missing rib.
